On February 15th 2017, the European Academy of the Regions had the pleasure of receiving Mr. Theo De BY, as key note speaker to the Forum on Healthcare Innovation and Government Policy.

Mr. De By, an MBA, is Managing Director at Euromacs. Due to his longstanding experience in managing the medical sector, he has been invited to become Ambassador of the Registries of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).

The purpose of his organization is to run a European registry for data from patients with mechanical circulatory support systems. The data collected are then made available for research purposes on an anonymous basis. The registry allows also the comparison between European and international data in the field of mechanical circulatory support. The data enable hospitals to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to improve their own situation and service quality in the matter thanks to progressive insights and comparisons with other hospitals and countries’ data. The data enable doctors also to give more accurate information to patients on the success rate of specific operations.

The conference was held due to EAR-AER’s commitment to maximize patient access to advanced medical therapies and to actively engage and partner with key drivers that promote that patients’ lives are not only saved but substantially improved and mortality rates are reduced.

The association was therefore proud to announce its collaboration to the organization of the first EU roundtable on Mechanical Circulatory Support on April 10, 2017 from 15-18hrs at the European Parliament.
