EAR-AER board member, Mr. Louis Delcart is currently doing a result-oriented monitoring for the EU on a project called Women in Tech addressed to women in Eastern Europe. In the framework of that project he attended a very interesting conference today in the Google Start-up Centre in Warsaw on the theme FemTech aimed at empowering women who set up companies specifically aimed at women’s needs and related to technology. Several topics discussed are directly related to regional development.

One aspect that was discussed very often was the creation and management of women communities that not only enabled women to connect remotely to discuss certain common topics and needs on a regular and structured basis, but also to exchange data that could then be used for the FemTech companies that are set up. However, the community element also allows women in rural areas without medical service providers to use services such as medical diagnoses that they would otherwise be deprived of. Another theme discussed is remote work, which means that many assignments can be done from home and at self-chosen times in a context where productivity and effectiveness are considered more important than networking for promotion in the business world.
