On the 6th of December 2023, our president Nelu Neacsu and honorary member Henri Malosse participated in the debate on the energy potential of the Baltic Sea: is there space for a regional innovation valley and closer cooperation among the countries of the region? Will the Baltic Sea have a common industrial and energy policy? Does the Baltic Sea have a chance to become the largest regional innovation valley under the Net Zero Industry Act?

The event was organised in the European Parliament by SME Connect in partnership with the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) and hosted by Riho Terras MEP, Member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, and moderated by TOMASZ WROBLEWSKI, EESC member and President of Warsaw Enterprise Institute, featured speakers JAROSŁAW BRODA, Board Member of Baltic Power; RONALD LIESKE, Director of the Managing Authority and Joint Secretariat, Interreg Baltic Sea Region; DR. FRANK UMBACH, Energy Security Analyst; and DR. HORST HEITZ, Secretary General of the European Taxpayers Association.

The discussions at the Baltic Energy Summit underscored the gravity of addressing security challenges, fostering innovation, and promoting collaboration to unlock the full potential of the Baltic Sea for renewable energy. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, this event provided an invaluable platform for industry leaders and policymakers to exchange ideas and collectively pave the way for a sustainable and secure energy future.” A detailed report of the discussion can be found here.
